Net Zero and Environment Policy

1. Introduction

MANDALA CIO is committed to minimizing its environmental impact and contributing to global efforts to achieve net-zero carbon emissions. As a charity dedicated to supporting adults with learning disabilities, we recognize the importance of a sustainable environment for the well-being of our service users and the broader community. This policy outlines our commitment to environmental sustainability and our strategies for achieving net-zero carbon emissions.

2. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Establish a framework for reducing our carbon footprint and achieving net-zero emissions.

  • Promote sustainable practices within our organization and community.

  • Support local businesses and prioritize short supply chains to minimize environmental impact.

3. Scope

This policy applies to all trustees, employees, volunteers, contractors, and partners involved with MANDALA CIO

4. Commitments

MANDALA CIO commits to the following principles and actions to achieve net-zero carbon emissions and promote environmental sustainability:

  • Carbon Footprint Reduction: Identify and implement measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across all operations, including energy use, transportation, waste management, and procurement.

  • Sustainable Procurement: Prioritize the use of local businesses and short supply chains to reduce transportation emissions and support the local economy. Ensure that suppliers adhere to environmental and ethical standards.

  • Energy Efficiency: Improve energy efficiency in our buildings and operations by adopting energy-saving technologies and practices.

  • Renewable Energy: Transition to renewable energy sources where possible, including the use of solar, wind, or other sustainable energy options.

  • Waste Reduction: Minimize waste generation through recycling, reusing, and composting initiatives. Reduce the use of single-use plastics and other non-recyclable materials.

  • Sustainable Transportation: Encourage the use of public transport, carpooling, cycling, and walking. Invest in electric or hybrid vehicles for organizational use where feasible.

  • Education and Awareness: Raise awareness about environmental issues among staff, volunteers, service users, and the wider community. Provide training and resources to promote sustainable practices.

  • Partnerships and Collaboration: Collaborate with other organizations, charities, and government bodies to share best practices and support broader environmental initiatives.

5. Local Businesses and Short Supply Chains

  • Support for Local Businesses: Actively seek to work with local suppliers and service providers to reduce transportation emissions, support the local economy, and build community resilience.

  • Short Supply Chains: Prioritize sourcing products and services with minimal supply chain distances to reduce carbon emissions and environmental impact. Evaluate suppliers based on their environmental practices and commitment to sustainability.

6. Monitoring and Reporting

  • Performance Monitoring: Regularly monitor and assess our environmental performance against set targets and objectives.

  • Reporting: Report on our environmental performance and progress towards net-zero emissions annually. Ensure transparency and accountability by sharing these reports with stakeholders.

  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously seek opportunities to improve our environmental performance and update our strategies and practices accordingly.
